11. The Cheesecake Factory
Her “Original” cheesecake was inspired by a recipe Evelyn Overton discovered in her neighborhood Detroit newspaper in the 1940s. Everyone flocked to her recipe, so she opened a little bakery, but she finally closed it to concentrate on raising David and Renee.
She kept selling cakes to some of the top eateries in town after relocating her baking supplies to her basement kitchen. To give starting their firm one more attempt, Evelyn and her husband Oscar relocated to Los Angeles in 1972.
